So.. are you all excited for the Olympics.. we are!
First off, I think it's just a fantastic event in general.. Secondly, for the whole sha-bang to be happening just 5 hours south of where we live is an incredible thought. Did you know that the soccer quarterfinals are happening in Glasgow? Yes indeed.. click here if you don't believe me.
For the past 2 months the Olympic torch has been traveling all over the UK. To the North of Scotland, across to Ireland and is currently still going making its way to London. When it came through Glasgow, it actually passed right by our street.. we waited at the local pub outside with a pint to watch it pass by.. the best bit.. there was hardly a crowd.
There was a crowd to do some cheering but not the whole, let's sleep out overnight to ensure we get a view. Here we are waiting for it to pass. Ruby had her flag waving (excuse it's not an American flag - think of it as we were supporting simply the London Olympics).
Here is the torch being carried down the road.. by a bunch of kids.. makes you feel all warm inside. In the van that drives by is the Olympic mascot.. a funny one eye think.. looks a lot like a Snork.
The Olympic village is only about 3 miles from where I used to live in East London - and where my friend Claire (whom I went to her wedding in France last month) currently lives and we stay with when we go to London.
Can't wait for the opening ceremony. Danny Boyle, although controversial as he is depicting turn of the century England (not so much Ireland and Scotland - Scotland is represented with a sad thistle on the stage) - and not present, which is multicultural and modern. I know the group Underworld is producing the music and I can't wait to see who else is going to be on stage. YAY!
